CUNY Chapbook Festival, Part 1: Keynote Speaker and Performance

Online

Keynote: Matvei Yankelevich (Ugly Duckling Presse) presents a talk on the history of the chapbook and its crucial place for emerging and experimental writers of all genres.

Matvei Yankelevich is an award-wining poet, translator, and professor. He is also a founding member of the Ugly Duckling Press editorial collective, one of the premier chapbook publishers in the United States, established in 1993.

“After party”: Cornelius Eady Trio, a reading and performance.

Lamont Poetry Prize winner and Pulitzer Prize nominated poet Cornelius Eady has set his poetry to song and the lyrics to chapbooks published by Kattywompus Press. Eady’s songs tell the story of the passing of time, the Black American experience and the blues in the style of Folk & Americana music. Guitarists Charlie Rauh and Lisa Liu join Eady to create layered and graceful arrangements to bolster Eady’s adept craftsmanship as a songwriter, lyricist, and poet.
